Lord-Higel's
Coffee House
Coffee and conversation in Venice's oldest house. Grab a rocking chair. Stay awhile.
Venice, Florida
Our Happy Place
This old house has been around since 1896. Joseph Lord built it. George Higel—one of Venice's founding fathers—lived here. It almost got torn down in 1950, but the Higel family saved it.
Now it's a coffee house. We serve Black Gold coffee (roasted right here in Venice), fresh pastries, breakfast, and light bites. Friday and Saturday nights, we pour wine and local beer until 9.
The porch is the best part—string lights, ceiling fans, rocking chairs. Grab a seat, grab the paper, grab a friend.

What People Are Saying
“Hands down and by FAR the most aesthetically beautiful coffee house I have ever had the pleasure of spending time in. This is THE coffee shop I have been WAITING FOR. The atmosphere is immaculate — like a laid back afternoon on the porch of an old Florida home. Every member of the staff is a rockstar. If I'm having a crappy day, all I need to do is go and sip a honey latte in an oak rocking chair on the porch of Lord-Higel's and even my worst day gets 10x better.”

“Stopped in for an evening coffee and I'm so glad we did. The home's historic charm and original details are just as delightful as the owner, who clearly takes pride in sourcing only the highest-quality beans — you can truly taste the difference. From the cozy aesthetic to the exceptional coffee, this place is hard to beat.”

“I found my new fave coffee spot! The space is absolutely beautiful, coffee is wonderful (and they have decaf options which many do not) and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The porch is beautiful. I was there for 3 hours working and can't wait to go back! Excited to go in the evening for a glass of wine and charcuterie!”

“Great coffee and great atmosphere! I ordered the Bullfrog latte with oat milk and half caff and they were able to accommodate everything. My friend and I loved the restored historic home and reading the informational signs and appreciating the history. The atmosphere is so inviting and beautiful. I highly recommend and will definitely be back!”

“This coffee shop is a gem … a true gift to Venice. The setting is so sweet in this historic house, meticulously maintained, decorated beautifully with a comfortable wrap around front porch with tables and rocking chairs. The owners showed great pride, answering questions about the history of the building and were so warm and welcoming. The coffee was great.”
